On the day the grandparentals arrived to visit us here, me and the Assistant Chronicler decided to take the N’EX, or Narita Express, to meet them at the airport. The NEX is a iconic Tokyo train ferrying thousands of tourists from central Tokyo to Narita Airport, Tokyo’s second airport terminal located an hour and a half drive from the centre of Tokyo. And no, I was not just using the grandparents’ arrival as a reason to ride on the NEX.

We wanted to make a train at about 1 o’clock from Shibuya, but there was a problem: neither of us had eaten lunch. And so, we did something very Japanese, and ate an express ramen lunch. We had tonkotsu (you should know what that is by now) at Ramen Ichikakuya in Shibuya, pictured below.
And though I may or may not have burnt my tongue on the piping hot noodles, all in all it was a certified excellent bowl of ramen, with a great mix of flavour and a in-your-face strong yet refined umami, and so I believe it deserves a spot in the exclusive Editors’ Choice Hall Of Fame of the best ramen we’ve had, 10/10, Editors’ Choice Award.
(Although we still didn’t catch our train, it was OK because the flight was 30 min late and we caught the next train)
This was so interesting, I am going to ask the Chronicler if he will take me to this place so that I can try this ramen myself.
